Make Movement Fun!

Kids grow best in motion: Encourage 1 hour of physical activity a day.

Workout videos are a great way to get moving at home with family members. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends Fit Kids, a website with a range of home workouts for children. Videos are divided into four groups: warmups, fitness movements, mindfulness, and yoga. Scroll through and select the exercise of your choice. The short videos demonstrate proper form. Try an exercise for 30 seconds, then take a 30-second break before moving on to the next one. https://fitkids.org/homeworkouts

The American Council on Exercise provides instructions for building your own obstacle course here: https://www.acefitness.org/education-and-resources/lifestyle/blog/7244/simple-obstacle-courses-for-kids/

The different types of obstacle courses require minimal equipment and are easy to set up at home. If you don’t have plastic cones, use other objects around the house of a similar size, such as large cups or containers. Use large cardboard boxes to create crawling spaces. Time your child to see how fast he/she can make it through the course and then brainstorm ways to make it more challenging by moving equipment around.
