Are You Staying Hydrated at Home?

 Many of our schedules and routines have been disrupted during this time, which can make it difficult to make sure we are getting enough water. Approximately 60 percent of our body consists of water, so it is essential to make our bodies function.

Water is vital to the life of every cell in our body, helps to regulate our internal body temperature, aids in digestion, helps flush waste out of our bodies, forms saliva, and cushions our joints.  Luckily, you can consume water several different ways throughout the day to stay hydrated.

Instead of reaching for soda or energy drinks, choose a glass of water. Soda and energy drinks are not hydrating to the body and add extra calories. 

Carry a refillable water bottle to remind you to drink water throughout the day. By having it available, it’s the easy choice when you’re thirsty.

Add flavor by squeezing in some fresh lemon or lime juice into your water, or infuse your water with some sliced cucumber, blueberries or basil.

Need to mix it up? You can also stay hydrated be eating certain foods.

Several fruits have a high-water content, with the added benefit of vitamins and nutrients. Try cantaloupe, strawberries and watermelon, bananas, grapes, oranges, pears and pineapples and avocados.

Vegetables such as carrots, cooked broccoli, lettuce, cabbage, celery, spinach and cooked squash also have a high-water content and are great sources of fiber, vitamins and nutrients.
