Whether you are new to cooking or have a lifetime of experience in the kitchen, there are always new tricks you can learn to take your cooking skills to the next level.
Here are some of our favorite tricks:
Toast nuts, such as almonds, walnuts, and cashews, before adding them to your favorite dishes. Save money by purchasing them raw and toast them yourself. Add nuts in one layer to a pan on medium heat. Toast for about 5 minutes and use to add extra flavor and crunch to any meal. No oil required, but make sure to flip them so they don’t burn!
Add acidity, such as lemon juice or your favorite vinegar, to meals that need an extra flavor boost. If you decide to use lemon or lime juice, heat the whole lemon or lime for about 15 seconds in the microwave to release more of the liquid.
Freeze raw meat for about 45 minutes or partially thaw out the meat to easily slice. This is great for stir fries, pastas, and other dishes.
Use a sharp knife when chopping and prepping ingredients. A sharp knife makes slicing and dicing that much easier and reduces the risk of accidental cuts. Learn more about proper knife usage by reading our blog post on Cooking at Home – Knife Skills.
