Calcium, Vitamin D (bone health), and Omega-3 fatty acids (reduce risk of stroke & heart attack). These are vital to our health over the winter months when many of us tend to be less physically active and we are not exposed to much sunlight. Calcium, Vitamin D and Omega-3 fatty acids can be included into our diet by eating fish (salmon, tuna, herring, mackerel, trout, and sardines) foods, including, walnuts, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, and spinach. Calcium and Vitamin D can also be consumed by eating dairy products.
Winter Activity: To stay physically active during colder months, think of ways to adjust favorite outdoor activities to indoor spaces such as walking in a recreation center or try an exercise video on YouTube. When going outside for exercise, dress in layers and wear gloves and a hat. Even building a snowman can fight off the winter blues.
Hydrate Yourself: Sometimes in Winter, we don’t feel as thirsty but we definitely need to drink plenty of water!
